Joha Harrison is a multidisciplinary artist working across photography, painting, mixed media, and film. Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, lived in Georgia, and based in Sacramento, California since 2009, his practice is rooted in observation, memory, and emotional translation. His creative path began early: submitting sneaker designs to Nike in elementary school, before returning seriously to art through photography in high school, where documenting lived experience became a lifelong pursuit.
With over two decades behind the camera, Harrison’s work explores how moments, environments, and histories are remembered, layered, and transformed over time. His painting and mixed-media practice integrates handmade paper, collage, texture, and acrylic to translate intuition, sensation, and reflection into immersive abstract compositions. These works function as emotional landscapes; paces where color, material, and gesture hold narrative weight. Film serves as an extension of this language, allowing still images to expand, move, and breathe, building atmospheric environments that unfold across time.
